SALEM, NH – Here’s a sure sign of spring: Canobie Lake Park opens for its 2016 season on Saturday, April 30th, weather permitting.

Grand Opening and One-Day Sale
Canobie will be offering 2016 admission tickets at a special reduced price during their Grand Opening on Saturday, April 30, at the Park from 11AM to 6PM, weather permitting. During the sale, admission tickets will be sold for the reduced price of just $29 each which is $9 off the regular season general admission price. Discounted 2016 tickets will also be available online atcanobie.com through midnight Saturday. There is no limit on how many passes can be purchased at the sale price, and each pass is valid on any one day during Canobie’s 2016 operating calendar.

One of New England’s Best Values for Family Entertainment
Canobie Lake Park is a short, gas-friendly trip from most points in New England, and parking is always free. A single, low admission price includes over 85 rides – including thrill rides like their wild roller coaster, Untamed – family and kid-friendly rides, attractions and all scheduled live shows. Castaway Island, Canobie’s water play area that opens Memorial Day Weekend, is also included with admission. The Canobie Institute: Over 15 Educational Programs for School Groups
The Canobie Institute is designed to provide a genuine educational experience for school groups visiting the Park. Schools can book an outing where their students can participate in over 15 educational programs. Programs include real-world projects, physics and science experiments, live educational presentations and course work designed to complement what students learn inside the classroom. The Canobie Institute provides teachers with some rather unique tools to reinforce a variety of math, science, creative, history, biology and many more principles. Wide Variety of Live Entertainment for 2016
Canobie’s “SummahPalooza” live entertainment series features over 18 varied acts appearing at the Park throughout this summer and fall. Shows include the return of the popular tribute to Lady Gaga and tributes to today’s top hits with The Boys of Summer and Pop Divas. The Incredible Acrobats of China featuring the New Shanghai Circus also returns while a new “Vegas style” magic show, Magic Mayhem, makes its debut. The crowd-favorite Great American Game Show comes back to Canobie where guests can be contestants to win cash and prizes.

Join a refuge ranger for a behind the scenes tour of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Tour will be
conducted via refuge van, with several brief “drive by” stops along the way. The tour will present an “up
close and personal” look at the refuge thro
ugh the multiple lenses of the cultural history of Plum Island
and the Great Marsh, native wildlife and their habitats, and the role of refuge management in the
conservation of these precious natural resources. Participants may be driven along areas on the
refuge
otherwise closed to the public. This guided two hour program is most appropriate for older teens and
adults. Binoculars and/or a camera are recommended, but not required. Meet the ranger in the lobby of
the Refuge visitor center 15 minutes prior to the program start time. Each session is limited to 14 participants; no more than 4 individuals per sign up. Again, this is a vehicle based tour, with limited
stops on the Refuge. Advance registration is required for this program, as enrollment is limited. Be
advised that individual tours may be subject to cancellation. *Please note: Those who call and leave
messages after hours, your registration is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation call from a

In 2016, the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry is celebrating its 50th anniversary! A remarkable accomplishment for our community. To mark the occasion, the Chamber has planned a contest for the cover of its 50th Anniversary Guidebook. The contest is open to the Newburyport Art Association artist members and non-member artists – artists are invited to submit a work for consideration for the cover of the guidebook. The Chamber requests images that celebrate the aesthetic beauty of the greater Newburyport area. Works may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

The Guidebook is distributed to 40,000 residents and visitors during 2016. The winning artwork will be showcased on the cover and the artist will receive a $250 Newburyport Gift Card and a Newburyport Art Association one-year membership.

The deadline for the artist’s Intent to Participate is Monday, November 16, 2015. Artists should email their Intent to Participate to Elena Bachrach, Executive Director, NAA.

Digital images – one image per artist, or three if the work is three-dimensional – are due Monday, January 11, 2016. All digital images (resolution should be 300 dpi and the image size a minimum of 14″ x 14″) should also be emailed to Elena Bachrach.

The Chamber’s Cover Contest Jury Committee will select ten finalists on Thursday, January 21. The ten finalists will be required to bring their work to the NAA by Friday, February 19. The winning selection will be announced on March 10. The NAA will install an exhibition of all ten finalists’ works March 8-20. The show reception and the NAA’s Chamber Member Mixer will be held on Thursday, March 10 in the Hills Gallery at the Newburyport Art Association.

It should be understood that the winning entry will become the property of the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Photo credit/bio will be published in the guidebook.

2015 Sea Festival of Trees

It’s almost time for the Third Annual Sea Festival of Trees, which will be open to the public from Friday, November 20th through Sunday, December 6. Get ready for a giant maze of sparkling holiday trees, stage and ice skating performances, visits with Santa, our Giant Gingerbread House display, Gift and Sweet shop, and Festival Café. It’s a 15-day holiday wonderland by the sea, located at the Blue Ocean Event Center on Salisbury Beach. Presented by The Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank. All the trees are generously donated by local individuals, businesses, and organizations and are beautifully decorated for your enjoyment. All the trees will be raffled off to lucky winners, and the festival proceeds support Anna Jaques Hospital and the Salisbury Beach Partnership.
